How to choose a Kerala package

Start with three questions: how many days do you have, what do you want to see and who is travelling? A long weekend suits Munnar and a houseboat. Five or six days allows the hills, the backwaters and a beach or Fort Kochi. Seven or eight days covers the classic route from Kochi to Kovalam. Ayurveda stays are a different kind of trip, built around one base and a daily programme.

Next, think about the season. September to March is the most comfortable, with December to February the busiest. April and May are hot on the coast but cool in Munnar. June to August is the monsoon, which suits Ayurveda, waterfalls and lower prices, but needs flexibility on hill roads and beaches.

What to compare between packages

  • The number of bases and the length of drives. Fewer hotel changes mean more rest.
  • The houseboat category. Ask for the classification, the cabin photos and the air-conditioning hours.
  • The hotel type. Plantation cottages, lakeside resorts and beach hotels offer very different experiences.
  • Meals. Breakfast is the usual inclusion; houseboat nights usually include dinner and breakfast.
  • Activities. Boat rides, entry tickets and performances are often paid separately.
  • Peak dates. Christmas and New Year, Onam and school holidays cost much more.

What we will ask you

To prepare a useful quote we need your travel dates, the number of adults and children with ages, your starting city, preferred hotel category and a rough budget. We will also ask about interests, such as wildlife, Ayurveda or beaches, and anything that limits the plan, such as mobility or motion sickness. None of this is a commitment.

If none of the packages fits, send us your plan and we will draft one.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need for Kerala?

Six or seven days covers Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady and a backwater night without rushing. Five days works if you choose two bases, such as Munnar and Alleppey. Adding the southern beaches at Kovalam or Varkala, or Wayanad, needs eight or nine days, because the road legs are slower than they look on a map.

What should I know before booking a houseboat in Alleppey?

Choose a registered, classified boat with a waste-treatment system, confirm whether you want a private or shared boat, and check the timings. Houseboats usually check in around midday and moor before dark. Ask about air-conditioning hours, the meals, the crew and the cabin photos, and avoid very cheap offers that cut corners on safety or hygiene.

Is it worth visiting Kerala in the monsoon?

Yes, for the right trip. Heavy rain brings green hills, waterfalls and the traditional Ayurveda season, with lower hotel rates. But landslides can close hill roads, beaches may be unsafe for swimming, and some activities are cancelled. Choose resort-based stays, keep your plans flexible and check district advisories before travelling to Munnar or Wayanad.

How do I travel around Kerala?

A private car with a driver is the most flexible way to connect Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey. Trains run along the coast and are good for Kochi, Alleppey and Thiruvananthapuram. Water ferries and boats link backwater towns. Hill roads are slow, so we usually plan three to four hours per leg.
