Tell us your travel dates, group size, starting point, preferred stay category and budget range. We will use those details to prepare a more relevant Kerala plan.

Kerala is the home of modern Ayurveda tourism, and a residential stay is one of the best reasons to come. The best programmes combine a consultation with a qualified physician, daily treatments and massages, simple vegetarian food, yoga and rest. The worst are spas with an Ayurveda label and little substance. The packages in this group are designed to help you tell the difference.

What a good programme includes

  • A consultation on arrival with a physician, who takes a history and prescribes a plan.
  • Daily treatments, such as oil massages, herbal steam, shirodhara and other therapies prescribed for you.
  • Diet. Simple, often vegetarian, meals designed to complement the treatment.
  • Yoga and meditation, offered at most retreats.
  • Rest. Treatments are tiring, and days are intentionally quiet.
  • Follow-up at the end, with advice for home.

How long to stay

A week is a sensible minimum for a meaningful rhythm. Two weeks or more are common for detox or rejuvenation programmes. Short sessions of two or three days are relaxing but are best seen as spa breaks.

When to go

The traditional Ayurveda season is the monsoon, from June to September, when the cool, damp weather is considered ideal for treatments, and prices are lower. Many people also choose the dry months from October to March, when weather is pleasant.

Honest expectations

Ayurveda is a traditional system, and experiences are personal. We recommend wellness stays for relaxation and general wellbeing, not as a substitute for medical treatment. Tell the physician about any health conditions, medicines and allergies, and speak to your own doctor beforehand if you have a chronic illness or are pregnant. Be wary of any centre that promises cures.

How to choose a centre

Look for qualified physicians, clear programme descriptions, transparent prices, hygienic facilities and recent guest feedback. Ask about the ratio of therapists to guests, how treatments are scheduled and whether the centre is registered. We name the category and the centre in your quote.

Where to begin

See the Kerala Ayurveda retreat, 7 nights, which can be adapted to your health and schedule. Tell us your dates and what you hope to get from the stay and we will suggest a centre.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an Ayurveda stay in Kerala worth it?

It can be a restful experience if you pick a reputable centre. Look for a resort with a qualified physician who does a consultation before prescribing massages or treatments. A week gives a meaningful rhythm, though short sessions are also available. Treat it as wellness and relaxation, not medical treatment, and tell the doctor about any health conditions.

Is it worth visiting Kerala in the monsoon?

Yes, for the right trip. Heavy rain brings green hills, waterfalls and the traditional Ayurveda season, with lower hotel rates. But landslides can close hill roads, beaches may be unsafe for swimming, and some activities are cancelled. Choose resort-based stays, keep your plans flexible and check district advisories before travelling to Munnar or Wayanad.

Is Kerala good for vegetarians and seafood lovers?

Both do well. Kerala is famous for fish curry, prawn roast and karimeen pollichathu, and also has a rich vegetarian tradition, including sadya on banana leaf, avial, thoran and appam with vegetable stew. Houseboat cooks can prepare vegetarian or Jain meals if told in advance.
