Groups love Uttarakhand for its variety: rafting one day, a safari the next, and a lakeside evening after that. But groups bring planning challenges. Vehicles must be sized, rooms must be blocked and activities have quotas and safety rules. Monsoon road risk affects the whole group at once.
What changes for a group
- Vehicles. A tempo traveller or several cars, depending on size and the roads. Large buses are impractical on many hill roads.
- Rooms. Twin, triple and quad rooms, with groups kept together where possible. Peak-season rooms in Nainital and Mussoorie are limited.
- Activities. Rafting and safaris need advance bookings, and Corbett zones have quotas.
- Safety. A clear plan for swimming, rafting and waterfalls, and a rule that no one goes into the water after alcohol.
- Costs. Shared vehicles reduce per-person transport, while activity fees are per person.
Popular formats
- Friends' trip. Corbett and Nainital in four or five days.
- Adventure weekend. Rafting, camping and a bonfire in Rishikesh.
- Pilgrimage group. Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Char Dham in season.
- Extended family. Mussoorie and Rishikesh at a relaxed pace.
Tips for group leaders
Confirm headcount and ID details early. Ask each person about health and fitness. Agree rules about alcohol, noise and swimming. Appoint a coordinator to speak to us. Keep spare time for weather.
A seasonal note
Groups often choose long weekends, but those are the most crowded and expensive times in the hills. If your dates are flexible, a midweek trip in March, April, October or November gives you better rooms, shorter queues and calmer roads.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is river rafting open in Rishikesh?
Rafting generally runs from about September to June, and is suspended in the monsoon when the Ganga is high. The exact opening and closing dates are decided each year by the authorities, who also set safety rules. Rafting is not a certainty on any given day, so we keep a backup plan.
When is Jim Corbett National Park open?
Most safari zones open in mid-November and close around mid-June for the monsoon, though Jhirna and some buffer areas have stayed open through the rains. Dhikala stays and some zones need advance booking, and rules change each season. We confirm zones and slots before quoting. Tiger sightings are never guaranteed.
Is it safe to visit Uttarakhand in the monsoon?
It can be done, but it carries real risk. Heavy rain in July and August causes landslides and road closures, especially on the routes to Kedarnath, Badrinath and the Kumaon hills. If you must travel then, choose lower destinations such as Rishikesh and Dehradun, keep dates flexible and follow weather and district alerts.
