Route: Leh - Nubra Valley - Pangong Tso - Leh

Places covered: Leh, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey Monastery, Khardung La, Nubra Valley, Hunder, Pangong Tso

This plan is built for couples who want the landscape without too much struggle. It uses fewer nights on the road than our classic plan, spends more time in comfortable hotels and leaves space for quiet moments. It will not feel like a beach honeymoon, and we make that clear from the start.

Who it suits

Couples in good health who enjoy mountains, silence and photography. It works from June to September, and September is often the loveliest month. It is not suitable for anyone with heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions, or in early pregnancy, without medical advice.

How the days flow

You land in Leh and rest. The second day is gentle: the palace, Shanti Stupa and a quiet dinner. The third day takes you to Thiksey for the morning prayers and then to a long lunch. On day four, you cross Khardung La to Nubra, spend the late afternoon on the Hunder dunes and sleep in a comfortable camp. On day five, you continue to Pangong via the Shyok road when conditions allow, or return to Leh and go to Pangong the following day. Day six returns to Leh over Chang La. Day seven is departure.

What makes it romantic

  • A comfortable hotel or heritage guesthouse in Leh for the first nights.
  • Sunrise or sunset at Shanti Stupa and the Hunder dunes.
  • A night beside Pangong, where the stars are close and the silence is complete.
  • A private driver who knows the roads and the right places to stop.
  • Optional extras: a candlelit dinner, a photographer, a stargazing session or a flower arrangement in your room.

Honest notes

Pangong is cold, and the camp is simple. Bathrooms are basic, and hot water is limited. Some couples find the night restless because of altitude. We pick the best available camp and brief you on bedding and heating. Mobile coverage is poor, so download maps and tell family about patchy contact.

Altitude and rhythm

The plan keeps two full days in Leh before any high pass, and avoids back-to-back long drives. If one of you feels unwell, we rest or descend, and we do not push on to keep the schedule.

Customising

Add a night in Leh at the end, replace Pangong with a second night in Nubra, or add a western-route day. Tell us your dates and the mood you want, and we will adapt the plan.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ladakh good for a honeymoon?

It suits adventurous couples who love landscapes. It is not a classic resort honeymoon: facilities at the lakes are basic, nights are cold and the altitude requires care. Many couples love the stark beauty, the monasteries and the stars. Plan a slower pace, choose better camps and keep expectations realistic.

How serious is altitude sickness in Ladakh?

It is the main health risk. Leh is at about 3,500 metres, and passes and lakes go much higher. Ladakh's tourism advisory recommends at least 48 hours of rest on arrival. Drink water, avoid alcohol and sedatives, sleep well, ascend gradually and descend if symptoms worsen. Speak to your doctor about preventive medication before you travel.

What are the camps at Pangong and Nubra like?

Most are basic tent or cottage camps with shared or attached bathrooms, limited hot water and simple meals. Nights are very cold, even in summer. Quality varies, so ask about bedding, heating, bathrooms and noise before booking, and avoid camps that leave waste or run loud music.

Will my mobile phone work in Ladakh?

Postpaid connections from major operators work in Leh and parts of Nubra. Prepaid SIMs from other states generally do not work in the Union Territory. Coverage at Pangong, Tso Moriri and the passes is limited or absent, and there are no ATMs at the lakes, so carry cash and download offline maps.
