Route: Bagdogra - Gangtok - Bagdogra

Places covered: Gangtok, Rumtek Monastery, MG Marg, Gangtok ropeway

Gangtok is a convenient and pleasant corporate destination in the eastern Himalaya. It is clean, safe and scenic, with hotels that have meeting rooms and a lively food scene. This plan is a framework we adapt to your goals, group size and budget.

Who it suits

Teams of ten to forty people on a leadership retreat, team-building offsite or reward trip. Larger groups may need to split across hotels. It works best from October to May, avoiding the heart of the monsoon.

How the days flow

On day one, the group arrives at Bagdogra and drives four to five hours to Gangtok, checking in and gathering for a welcome dinner. Day two is the working day: a morning session at the hotel, a long lunch and an afternoon cultural visit to a monastery. Day three is a lighter day with a ropeway ride, a team activity, free time and a farewell dinner on MG Marg. Day four is the drive back to Bagdogra for flights.

What we coordinate

  • Flights and transfers, with group seat blocks and vehicles sized to the group.
  • The venue. A hotel with rooms, dining and a meeting room, where possible.
  • The programme. Sessions, a monastery visit, a ropeway ride, a cooking session or a team game.
  • Dietary needs. Vegetarian, Jain and other requests arranged.
  • Safety. Briefings on roads, altitude and local rules.
  • One contact for the organiser.

Practical considerations

The road from Bagdogra to Gangtok runs along the Teesta and may be closed after heavy rain. Meeting rooms in Gangtok are limited in size, so we check early. Flights to Bagdogra fill quickly. We keep a buffer for weather, and encourage groups to schedule the return flight in the evening. Participants should carry government ID.

What makes Gangtok work for teams

The town is compact and walkable. MG Marg offers an informal space for evenings. A monastery visit gives a quiet counterpoint to a working day. Small touches, such as a local welcome note or a talk by a guide, make the trip feel considered.

Why a short offsite works here

Because Gangtok is compact, the whole team can walk to dinner, and the road in and out is the only real logistics challenge. Teams often tell us that the monastery visit and the evening on MG Marg did more for team spirit than the formal sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need for Darjeeling and Sikkim?

Six to eight days is a comfortable minimum for Darjeeling and Gangtok with a day trip to Tsomgo Lake. Add two days for Pelling and two or three for North Sikkim. Hill roads are slow, so five days leaves little time to enjoy each place, and trying to see everything in four is mostly driving.

Are the roads in Sikkim safe?

Roads are narrow and climb through steep, landslide-prone slopes, and the NH-10 stretch from Siliguri to Gangtok along the Teesta river is closed from time to time after rain. Experienced local drivers matter a great deal. We avoid night driving, leave early in the day and keep spare days in the plan.

Is it safe to travel in the monsoon?

It can be done in lower places, but landslides, road closures and cancelled permits are common from June to September. If you must go, choose Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Gangtok, keep dates flexible, avoid long single-day drives and expect cloud to hide the views. North Sikkim is generally best avoided in heavy rain.
